Election 2007: Why I don’t feel like voting
12 May 2007
Millions flock to poll centers on Monday, May 14, 2007 to vote for 12 Senators, some congressmen, and local government officials. Color me excited, why don't you.
I really don't feel the urge for my vote to "count for something". Who will I vote for? Administration candidates who are running for the purpose of abolishing the senate? Opposition candidates hell bent on gaining majority for the sole purpose of an annual impeachment circus? Where the heck did the millions used in campaigning come from? Won't the vested interests that contributed to the blitz come knocking on the winners' doors?
Why don't they just focus their debate and resources on more important issues? Issues that need to be addressed like shutting the door on the church's stand against population control, fully liberalizing medicine imports, concentrating on sending quality OFWs to work abroad, scrapping the Lina Law against technically empowering squatters to get paid if evicted? I could go on, but putting the reasons all together on one article may make one lose respect for our so called government officials.
Over at our village, some congressman has completely remodeled their house with several retakes in between, plus successive purchases of SUVs just before election time. Just before Pork runs out, eh? I have no way of verifying where the money came from so I will have to keep quiet on this one.
On a purely selfish note, If I do decide to vote, I will place Recto's name on my ballot, as he was responsible for scrapping the doc stamps that make us traders buy stocks without doc stamps. Imagine before that era, if one bought a million shares of GEO below one peso, be it ten cents or eighty cents, one would be subject to 7,500 pesos in doc stamps. The flawed rationale that one would have to pay more in government doc stamps if a stock was below par was never really addressed. Why did one have to pay more to move some paperwork if a stock was below par? That was all history a few years ago, thank God.
Independent candidate Kiko Pangilinan gets my vote too, for not allying himself for alliance's sake. The late FPJ's daughter even came to the scene a few months ago to remind us of Mr. Noted's remarks when PGMA was being tried. Kiko later on was seen on some talkshow addressing this "Noted" remark he was famous for, as all having been in line with the constitutional process. Ahh, but do they all hide behind the law now, do they? So this paragraph is actually as confusing as my state of mind in voting!

I DON’T WANT TO VOTE PERIOD!… After meeting some people who were hired by a big politician’s people to hack into some system, added votes for him/her and deducted some (actually, a lot) from the opponent, who would’ve wanted to vote again?!? These hired cheaters were even proud of what they did as they brag, “It’s for the country.”
How can the Comelec say that “one vote counts a lot”? Well my vote will surely be counted (if I vote)…but how sure it will go to the candidates I really voted for?!? Comelec should do something more to improve our voting system.
Can’t endure our political system anymore. People who advocate nationalism, patriotism, and all other isms are all liars. I think the only chance our country gets well is when the tenth plague revisits us exterminating all the pigs.
In this country we don’t find hell beneath. Hell’s up there. It rules this country.
Can’t say it any better boss dragon.
(Delete it if you think you should.)
i will not delete these things as long as we don’t name names here. migration! I would if i could! damn peso too little value when taken to other countries of interest!
Bumoto man ako o hindi, my vote will not make a difference anymore. Cheating is not done anymore in the precint level… (read the continuation of my post on philippine politics thread page 97). Lost my faith on our electoral system and body long, long time ago.
This government will cheat not just on election day, it is cheating right now. It is cheating in every way possible to cheat. If it cannot cheat you by spending massively, it will steal your votes. If it cannot beat you by stealing your votes, it will oust you from the race - or from office after you win. If it cannot oust you, it will kill you. All three are happening at this very moment, even as we speak.
voting, is our constitutional right. yes, whether they cheat or not, whether our political system, social and economy improves or not, whatever happens after this day… i’ve done my part as a citizen of this country…i vote for whom i think the lesser evil and hope for the best. at least i tried in my very own way to make a difference. i will continue to try, hope and fail all over again until something improves. if we filipinos give up trying ad hoping, who else will?
you have just answered why patriots like jim paredes took his family abroad.
I think it’s hard to be nationalistic at the expense of your loved ones. To me God above all, then loved ones and next is Country…Maybe that’s what Jim had in mind…
