Summer’s best dessert - Halo-Halo

16 May 2007

What a hot day!!! It's days like these that makes one crave for the best summer treat… HALO-HALO.  Speaking of halo-halo, its hard to find a good quality halo-halo these days.  The best for me so far, is from Goldilock's and Sandosenang Sarap.  Chowking used to serve great Halo-halo's but now, the ingredients are toooooo few and bland.  I've tried Iceberg's and I always end up with LBM.  Milky Way in Rockwell also served halo-halo with too few ingredients, its like everything is measured to the last piece of monggo or gulaman.  They say that Razon's (with branches in Pasig and Greenhills) serves great halo-halo but I haven't been there yet.  My parents have dined there and they said its not that good either.  On the other hand, my brother-in-law ate two orders of it last week.  In Heat and Paseo Uno buffet, their halo-halo sections are pathetic!!! No saba (banana) at all!!!

Share and Enjoy:

Razon’s the best for me. They have a unique way of shaving their ice which prevents the ice from clumping together plus they shave the ice so thinly that chewing the ice becomes a pleasant experience unlike in some places wherein every forceful bite on the ice chip is turned into a bone jarring experience. Razon’s loads their halo-halo with plenty of ice and condensed milk but puts a lot less of the other ingredients at least when compared to other establishments which works well for me since I’m not a big fan of halo-halo ingredients anyway especially the pungent langka.

how the heck can ice be shaved so that they wont clump together when put together? its the natural property of ice to stick to fellow ice

You may want to try our Halo-Halo at Ponciana’s Kitchen. We have branches in Theater Mall Greenhills, Timog Avenue QC, NS Amoranto Ave (near Banawe) QC and Fairview QC. It has 13 ingredients from beans to ube… enjoy!

down south in the town of nasugbu, there is a popular halo-halo store. the place is called Celing. it is open from 4pm to 12 midnite. during my high school days (80’s) sikat na sikat ito and hanggang ngayon sikat pa din sya. the secret is in the ice daw!

mickymac .. i would like to try your halo-halo pero your directions to your branches are not that very helpful (except for the theater mall branch). i ride laetitia (my old faithful sexyred and rusty bicycle) around metro manila during weekends and my looking for your halo halo branches with those very general description of their location may most likely just result in failure and leg cramps … not to mention a hungry and angry ninja cycling the roads of metro manila. so .. my request .. the address and general vicinity (or prominent landmarks) of those halohalo branches … tnx … shabbat shalom!

Hey guys! Sorry for the late reply…

Our Timog Branch is at the corner of Scout Torillo and Timog Avenue. Across it are Metrobank and Off The Grill.

The NS Amoranto Branch is located beside Chowking at NS Amoranto (formerly Retiro Avenue) corner Mayon Avenue. If you take Quezon Avenue going Espana, turn right at Banawe Street then turn left at the stoplight (Mega Motion). Go straight, after the second stoplight, you’ll see Jollibee on the right, and Chowking on the left. Beside it is Ponciana’s Kitchen.

Fairview Branch is near the FEU Hospital at Regalado Avenue in QC. On Regalado, go straight, then turn right at Good Shepherd (Omega Street). It is beside Read & Brew Coffeeshop.

Summer still here! Enjoy your Halo-Halo….

mickymac … while biking around with my old reliable laetitia (3june2007), i looked for the ponciana’s branch in timog … only to find out that it was closed … so i decided to pass by the greenhills branch (on my way to case the house of minis-pasig ..). the greenhills branch is in the foodcourt of the greenhills theater mall … hirap maka hanap ng table since dami tao … i liked the halo halo .. madami halo .. langka, kaong, beans, flan, etc. kaya lang, yung ice … hirap tunawin .. naubos ko na yung mga halo, may isang orb pa ng ice na hindi matunaw-tunaw … well .. im no halo-halo expert … but, oks sa akin yung halo-halo ni aling ponciana.
