Trinoma Opening

16 May 2007

May 16, 2007 marked the opening of The Trinoma.  You can't say it's the Trinoma Mall, because Trinoma stands for Triangle North Mall. Or the Mall in North Triangle Edsa.

Ayala land's 4 level shopping complex had its edsa side gate still closed on opening day.  One would have to turn the corner and enter through the North Avenue gate, forcing oneself upon the already congested road.

Lo and behold, the parking was full, and there were thousands of instant SM-North-borrowed market available.

Surprise surprise.  No wonder. There was a free opening day concert and Side A was on stage, singing their popular hits.  Incidentally, Trinoma is located beside the squatter area near the corner of Quezon Avenue and Edsa, very near the MRT.  Add to that the instant market from SM North and you have a jam packed opening day!

So they underestimated the capacity, as some air conditioning in other  as yet unopened boutique areas were not yet turned on.  There were no large empty stall spaces like there were when SM Megamall opened almost two decades ago.  They rushed and organized it well to open as much stores as possible.

There was a "Gateway Mall" like terrace/veranda type area where a collection of non-fastfood dining was available.

Even the cinemas were open already! There were 7, I think, 3 of which were already showing Shrek 3! Good! Tickets for tonight was my primary purpose of today's visit.

Going home was too much of a hassle, and I live only nearby! Upon exiting the mall, you wouldn't want to make a U-turn to take North Avenue back again whether you're going to North Caloocan/ Valenzuela side, or whether you're just aiming for the u-turn slot to head back to Makati Side via Edsa. No! Not unless you're taking that route near 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Otherwise, forget it.

It would be much quicker to turn right at North Avenue, away from SM north, and turn right again at the next stoplight before you reach the circle.  Your objective here is to reach the Quezon avenue Edsa intersection.  A much quicker way to wherever you would be going.

Good luck shoppers!
