Tropical Cyclone Warning: Tropical Storm "HELEN" (KALMAEGI)
Issued at 11:00 p.m., Tuesday, 15 July 2008

Tropical Storm "HELEN" has maintained its strength as it moves closer to Cagayan area.

Location of Center:(as of 10:00 p.m.)     
140 kms East of Aparri, Cagayan
Coordinates:     18.2°N, 123.2°E
Strength:     Maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center
and gustiness of up to 90 kph
Movement:     West Northwest at 7 kph

Forecast Positions/Outlook:     
Wednesday evening: 60 kms North of Aparri, Cagayan
Thursday evening:220 kms Northwest of Basco, Batanes
Friday evening: 460 kms North Northwest of Basco, Batanes or100 kms West of Northern Taiwan

Tropical Storm "HELEN" will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring rains over the rest of Luzon particularly over the Western Section. Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Residents along the coastal areas under Public Storm Signal Number 2 are alerted against big waves generated by this tropical cyclone.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 a.m. tomorrow.
