How to stream from PC to PS3 using tversity and enable media server

You've often wondered what icon that is in your Sony PS3 that says "media server". Well, it is a built in application that allows the PS3 to stream videos from your computer and display it on your TV.
What's needed:
PS3, PC with (wired) lan, Router, media server software like Tversity – Release 1.0.0.8a RC5 ( November 27, 2008 )(free), and most importantly: some know-how in moving files, and port forwarding from your router to the PC.
Note that the program TVersity, to be installed into your PC, can also stream files, photos, videos and music not just to your PS3, but also to your PSP, Iphone, Blackberry, Xbox, Wii, Some Nokia phones like 770/N800,
On your PCr:
- Download here TVersity or from the link above.
- Run the exe to install TVersity.
- After the install, you will be prompted to install codecs that maximize playback compatibility between TVersity pc media files and ps3. Leave every box in the original checked or unchecked state that you are prompted to at the default level.
- After installation completes, start up TVersity (without need for reboot). Then click Advanced -> Start Sharing.
- All that’s left now is to add something to the library. Select your media files for sharing by clicking Browse.
- Open up Windows Firewall (start/control panel/firewall) to add TVersity to the exception list. (This was automatically made sure to be allowed when you installed TVersity)
- Determine your computer’s IP address by Opening a command prompt. To open command prompt, click Start (on your windows taskbar), click Run, type CMD. A Black window will open. Type “ipconfig” in the DOS prompt.
- Enter your router setup and enable port forwarding of 41952 to your computer
Each router is different. For most Linksys routers, you can enter 192.168.1.1 on your internet browser window and an authentication will appear
Click the Security link near the top of the page.
Remove the checkmark from the Block Anonymous Internet Requests checkbox.
Click the Save Settings button near the bottom of the page.
Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page.
You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Range Forward.
Enter the name of the program into the Application box. It doesn't really matter what you put into this box, but something that will remind you why these ports are being forwarded would be a good idea. If you are forwarding a single port, enter 41952 as port number into the Start and the End boxes. Enter the ip address to forward these ports to into the IP Address box. Put a checkmark in the Enable checkbox. When you're finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
- Test that everything’s set up by visiting http://localhost:41952/. If it’s working you should see a web page with the TVersity icon.
For the next and final part, turn on your PS3. If you've previously set up your PS3 to update or browse the internet, then everything should be fine to proceed. To check this, you can go to your PS3's network icon, and select Internet Browser to browse and test your connection.
- Go to your Sony PS3 menu, click Settings icon and ensure that the Media Server Connection is set to Enabled.
- Now look for Video icon and click Search for Media Servers
- The PS3 will start looking for a media server and it will find your PC.
- You will now get a new icon under Video with the TVersity icon. Click on it (it should have your PC name).
- Browse to your video file.
- Simply load the video and sit back and enjoy your new PS3 media server!

how to fix "error connecting to tversity server" message.
This usually happens after most router restarts. If your router is set to recognize your computer's lease for 24 hours only, and you connect say, 28 hours after that, you will be assigned a new ip address. This means that if for Monday, your ip address connection assigned to you is 192.168.1.101, and your next connection would be wednesday, a different ip address like 192.168.1.105 may be assigned to you. This is known as your client lease time.
The solution for this is to go to your hard drive directory folder, where you installed tversity. Look for the config.xml. You can simply right click on the file and choose OPEN WITH wordpad.
you will be presented with long lines of code. don't worry. simply click ALT+E, then F, which is the mouse activity equivalent for going to the EDIT button on the top menu, and clicking FIND. So in the find query window, input the first decimals of your router's ip address. Like in my case, i could input "192.168" or "192.168.1", without the " " quotes of course. In your case, the address may be different.
Now that you know where to change the port forwarding code again, use the steps above to know what your current ip address connection to the router is. alternatively, instead of going into the router, you could click START/RUN, input CMD for the command prompt, and type ipconfig /all. your ip address will also be shown.
But you will still need to get into your router's Application and gaming menu to port forward your new ip address everytime your lease session with your router expires.
Surely it would be better to assign the PC a static IP or tell the router to assign the same IP when the server PC makes it’s DHCP request.
right now, it would be much better to do it on windows 7 platform without even having to use tversity!
