Obama wins Democratic nomination
4 June 2008
A surge of support from uncommitted delegates helped give Obama the 2,118 votes he needed to clinch the nomination and defeat rival Hillary Clinton, a former first lady who entered the race as a heavy favorite.
Obama will be crowned the Democratic nominee at the convention in August and will face Republican John McCain in November's election to choose a successor to President George W. Bush.
Yes We Can… from Sea to Shining Sea
26 April 2008I'm really not into American politics in a big way but I came across this video, a mix of a Barack Obama speech and a Black Eyed Peas rendition. Several celebs also have parts in this video such as Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Adam Rodriguez (CSI Miami), Kelly Hu, Amber Valetta, Enrique Murciano (Without a Trace) and a host of others.
Its a very powerful video, excellently made and edited, and, the politics aside, the message resonates more each time I watch it. Some of the lines pertain strictly to certain segments of American history but most are meaningful even to us in this part of the world.
Here's the video:
Philippine political unrest to escalate?
26 March 2008
With the Tuesday Supreme Court 9-6 ruling favoring secrecy over public disclosure in the Neri petition, i just can't help but foresee that since this political avenue has closed, some unseen "next step" will have to eventually take their course coming from the opposition camp.
Possibly, the last vestiges of democracy has been exhausted with this action. Groups waiting on the sidelines who previously decided to let the law take its course and see what the court has to say are probably busy scheduling their "meetings" right now. With Former Speaker Jose De Venecia now impeached out of the lower House of Congress, there would now be no formal place (nor hindrance) to tackle issues of corruption against those purportedly not wanting to testify at Senate Hearings because "it is not the proper forum".
