NBN-ZTE Scandal: All-out support for PGMA

13 March 2008

Ever since the NBN-ZTE scandal witnesses Jun Lozada and Dante Madriaga came out, I noticed that almost everyday, there's some province, municipality, city, league of whatever, sponsoring full page ads in main broadsheets expressing their "all-out" support for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.  Is it just me or does anyone share my sentiment that these ads actually make the administration look guilty than ever??? And I wonder who's paying for these hundred-thousand-pesos-per-page ads???

Star Fruit Balimbing Lozada Father Ed Panlilio Edsa etc

17 February 2008

In the Philippines, the Star Fruit that is called Balimbing has gained negative connotation for describing turncoats.  Like politicians, a star apple has many faces.

It gives fuel to the old adage, "there are no permanent friends nor enemies in politics".

Based on recent events, look at it two ways:

ZTE Broadband deal scam-kickback accuser Lozada was once a self-admitted player in the industry.  For one to get privy on such secret deals with secret benefits, one should be known to play ball, take a piece of the cake, and be quiet and hold the honor among thieves.

What Trillanes Can Teach Me About Trading

6 December 2007

I was originally going to title this: “Trillanes Could Almost Be A Trader.” However, that was too passive-voice, even for my taste, and that article a potential bandwidth waster if I wasn’t careful. Better to err on side of concise, especially on a blog.

Meanwhile, with events culminating in the aborted uprising at the Manila Peninsula last November 29, the recent life of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has some traits that could make a great speculator—had he decided to take up capitalism instead of fascism.

PGMA pardons ERAP

25 October 2007

Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has decided to grant executive clemency to former President Joseph Estrada today, October 25, 2007.  Citing the government's policy on granting pardon to inmates who are 70 years old, Erap will now have his civil and political rights restored.  However, Sandiganbayan's decision on the forfeitures will remain in force and in full effect.
