Mr. Banker, I believe it's because EDC's Bacman plant had some small output generated and anticipated losses from the Bacman plant delay were worse than actual losses or something to that effect

With a retained earnings of P112/share and cash on hand of around P48/share, the FPH board can afford to declare a dividend of around P4/share or P2 per half year. This could be a catalyst for the stock price to rise. this will definitely change Mr. Scrooge image!

FPIC fuel pipeline may be reopened

THE CONTROVERSIAL Batangas-Manila fuel pipeline may soon be reopened as the Energy department has recommended its opening to the Court of Appeals. "We already submitted results of borehole test, segmented pressure test and leak test First Philippine Industrial Corp.’s (FPIC) pipeline to the Court of Appeals and filed a motion to reopen the pipeline. We are awaiting decision on our manifestation," said Energy Undersecretary Jose M. Layug, Jr. in an interview on Friday.

He added the decision to recommend the pipeline’s reopening is "to ensure energy security and safety of trucks carrying the fuel."

The gas pipeline operated by FPIC, which provides 60% of Metro Manila’s fuel supply, was ordered shut by the Makati City government on Oct. 28, 2010 after a protracted search for the source of gasoline pooling in a condominium basement. The pipeline however has been leaking fuel to the West Tower condominium since July.

The pipeline began operation in 1969.

The Energy department ordered FPIC to replace some sections of the pipeline in December before another round of testing. Mr. Layug said the firm has since complied with the order.

The pipeline delivers fuel of Chevron Philippines, Inc. and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. from its facilities in Batangas to the Pandacan oil depot.

The oil companies have since begun alternative fuel supply arrangements to provide fuel to Metro Manila which includes trucking in fuel.

The Energy department had to request for exemptions from the truck ban for the trucks.

"We don’t have a timeline but the Supreme Court ordered the Court to decide on the issue within 60 to 90 days. If it’s reopened the pipeline has to run for 48 hours before it can operate normally," said Mr. Layug.

West Tower residents filed a Writ of Kalikasan to the Supreme Court which prevents the reopening of the pipeline.

The Writ of Kalikasan "protects the environment from damage caused by individuals or groups."

FPIC found the source of the leak as five minute holes in the pipe’s elbow two to three meters from the start ramp of the Magallanes flyover.

The residents have called for the permanent shut down of the pipeline but Mr. Layug said its independent experts Societe Generale de Surveillance, University of the Philippines-National Institute of Geological Sciences and the UP Institute of Civil Engineering said there is no reason to stop using the pipeline.

FPIC is a subsidiary of the Lopez group. -- Emilia Narni J. David

to support further why FPH should declare a total of P4/share this year. The gain on the sale of meralco shares on the first quarter of this year is already equivalent to P6/share. the improved earnings of EDC is still not included.

This issue is starting to be exciting. From P63.40 to P65, DBP bought more than P14 million or 221,000 shares of this stock. Sana lumabas na yung dividends nito before May 15.
