Fox news against CNBC’s choice in calling Jim Cramer their Financial Guru

12 October 2008

Fox Business - Jim Cramer

Fox News all but wages war on CNBC commentator Jim Cramer in their latest ad which focuses on bad advice regarding Wachovia that Cramer apologized for and his dire warnings about the market on the Today show earlier this week.

"The last thing you need is bad advice. The last thing you need is CNBC's Jim Cramer," warns the ad.

The promos are running on FBN and FNC, as well as through local avails on CNBC in many of the biggest markets (including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles). The print ads ran in the New York Times and Wall St. Journal today, in the National section.

Philippine Oil Stock Humor

6 October 2008

This cartoon by FM member Colorofmoney depicts the humor in continued delay of first oil from the Galoc consortium.

First oil was expected in early 2008 and cashflow from the Galoc development will support Nido's biggest exploration drilling program to date in the second half of 2008.  But after about 5 or so delays due to bad weather, faulty equipment (or people?), first oil has yet to be produced.

Free food from mister donut

6 October 2008

It was a normal bird chirping morning as I went to buy some food for the family at Mister Donut.  After ordering and paying for my take out, I noticed a sign beside the cash register which read, "If we don't issue a receipt, your meal is on us".

I never liked this ubiquitous notice because establishments with signs like that were obviously trying to convey the message of compliance to the BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) but never really explain the exact details as to  how a customer is considered to be "unissued a receipt".  Do we wait 5 minutes upon consummation of the deal? Do we wait for the customer to walk out the door? Or must the customer reach home first to be considered "unissued a receipt"?
